Matt Corey Bio
Venturing outside of the traditional role of the the saxophone, Matt Corey horn tends to function as more of the vocalist in his seasoned group of funk veterans. Belting out the melodies of recognizable pop tunes from the past 30 years and then turning them into vehicles for improvisation to showcase not only his formidable skill as an improvisor but also the very talented members of his band. You can clearly hear the influence of pop and r&b saxophonists such as Tom Scott and David Sanborn but also the raw emotion and energy of more traditional jazz and avant garde saxophonist in the vein of John Coltrane.
Six national college tours have earned Matt five awards as Solo Artist of the Year from the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities, one of the most recognized organizations for music booking in colleges in the United States. Matt and his band have had the opportunity to perform in a support role for many high profile national artists including Common, B.O.B., Third Eye Blind, Mike Posner, Joe Walsh, Far East Movement, and even watermelon smashing comedian Gallagher.
